Promotion

By June the work on the Harris Word Processing system was progressing, my team of three programmers had written much of the text formatting system I had designed although I didn’t get to write as much of the code as I would have liked as I spent more time explaining and directing the programmers in my group but management was happy and in June of I got a promotion to Associate Principle Engineer.

 

Summer

Mom with Baby Zack

My younger sister’s son Zackary Mixson Woodruff#6968 was born July 2nd and in August Mom and Dad drove their new TransVan to Lacy, Washington state to help Beth for two weeks. I received a post card from Mom on August 2nd saying they spent the weekend in Seattle and how cool it was there.  When they were ready to leave Beth told Dad, "You can't leave, what will I do without you?" On the way back they drove through Canada, stopping at Lake Louise and then to Michigan where they visited Mom’s relatives. By the time they got back to Florida they drove 8180 miles and spent $2700.   (see Mom's Trip Log)

Thirty five years later I would visit Lake Louise and stand in the same point.

Jimmy Buffet

Later that summer it was announced on the radio that Jimmy Buffett was going to play at a free concert at Florida Technical University in Melbourne the coming weekend.  It was short notice but Julie, Anne, Julie’s sister and I decided to go.  It would be the third time I saw Buffet perform, the first back in 1974 when he just showed up at a free concert Hume Field at the University of Florida, and the second in 1980 when he played warmup band for the Eagles, again at the University.  This time It was a perfect summer afternoon, bright and sunny and we had a great time sitting on a blanket and enjoying the music.
